No matter what philosophy you believe in, none of them will help you reach your greatest potential if these 6 bad habits aren’t stopped in their tracks. This is true for baseball and women’s softball. If you have any of these bad habits, getting rid of them will automatically increase the power and speed of the bats.
Smother the bug
If you were taught how to crush the bug, you stuck in a hole. Smushing the Bug involves a small muscle movement that reduces the power and speed of the bat. Some hitters learn to twist or turn their back foot to create more speed and power in the swing. Nothing can be further than the truth. Additionally, it is nearly impossible for you to hit intermediate or outdoor pitches with the sweet spot of the bat if you have a spinning foot problem. A safe exit! It is the most serious of these six illnesses because it also puts your balance off balance. This bad habit needs to be corrected right away, but it’s not easy.
Correction: Try to swing the bat while your back foot is planted flat on the ground. See if you can swing yourself without moving your back heel off the floor. Also, it can be helpful to work on the outside throws off the tee. This will help you strike with your heels and prevent that foot from spinning too early.
This common bad habit affects hitters who have been trained in the “back elbow” theory. If your back elbow goes up as you regain your weight, the bat will begin to wrap around your head and disrupt the moment of the swing, ultimately affecting the power and speed of the bat.
Correction: In your position, immediately lower your elbow. If that doesn’t work and your elbow keeps popping up, put the bat back into your upper hand as you move your hands and weight back. Correction: Stay as tall as possible in your stance and when swinging the bat for power.

Correction: Concentrate on pushing the back muscles. If you are a head diver, you try too hard to hit the ball with your eyes instead of letting your body put your hands towards the ball. “Crack your back” and keep your head behind the ball. It’s almost impossible to have any kind of power or bat speed when you’re out of balance. Once you have contacted the ball, remember that you can let your head fall off the ball for full follow-up!
Folded lead arm
If the hitters sway slightly upward and jump often, you can see if their head arm bends too much at the start of their swing. This problem is rare, but easy to fix.
Correction: All you need to do is focus on keeping the leading arm straighter as you start your swing. More advanced or experienced hitters won’t have this problem, but it’s something to be aware of. Remember; only make adjustments when the ball is not flying as it should during batting practice. If you hit rockets and your head arm flexes a bit, then who cares? In the swing, the guide arm usually straightens out at first, then eventually bends on contact depending on the location of the step (especially the low step).
The batter who twists the upper torso while regaining his weight before swinging will have difficulty hitting the ball. There is too much eye movement and upper body movement when the batter has this problem. This desynchronizes your timing and your swing.
Correction: This is a rare condition that can be cured by religiously practicing your weight without turning your shoulders. Your hands should move backwards without the shoulder turning much. It makes a big difference!
