Disney + subscribers will be able to enjoy the content offered on the platform with their friends while respecting the social distancing rules currently in force. The VOD service is in the process of integrating a new function into its app to allow users to watch the same content simultaneously with their friends, remotely.
GroupWatch, that’s its name, lets you send an invitation to your loved ones from your mobile or via the web version of the service, to watch the same program as a group, with a maximum of six participants. If the invitation is to be made from the app or the website, it is then possible to watch the movie or series from a connected device or Smart TV.
Once the viewing session has started, each participant can control its playback and pause, or move forward and backward in the video. They can also react live while the program is streaming by sending one of the six emojis offered by the service.
GroupWatching was first tested in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand during the month of September and the feature is now available in the United States. It should arrive in Europe in the coming weeks.
