Some users of Microsoft’s Edge browser have had a nasty surprise: random program crashes when entering data in the address bar. This issue occurs if Google is set as the default search engine, which is a choice that is used very often.
Switching to Bing as a search engine fixes the problem, but Microsoft also said it was enough to turn off search suggestions.
Are you seeing Edge crash when trying to type into the address bar? The team is looking into it! In the meantime, as a workaround, please turn off Search Suggestions here: edge: // settings / search. We’ll follow up once we have more!

Microsoft then sent a tweet to clarify that its teams had a priori found the cause of the problem, but that they were encouraging users to restore the browser settings to default, if they had been changed.
The next version of the browser, based on Chromium, is planned according to Microsoft’s schedule for August 27.
