Announced almost a month ago, Facebook’s new virtual reality headset, the Oculus Quest 2, can now be purchased on the Oculus website and on Amazon. It comes in two models, the first offered at 349 euros (64 GB of storage) and the second is sold 449 euros (256 GB). Whatever the version, you will have the same accessories in the box: two controllers, an accessory adapted to the wearers of prescription glasses, and finally a cable and a charger to recharge the device.
Two alternative straps are available as an option on the Facebook site, the first – more comfortable than the one delivered by default – at the price of 49 euros and the second, the most sophisticated with integrated battery, 139 euros. A carrying case and face protectors of different shapes are also offered for sale, at the respective price of 49 and 39 euros.
The Oculus Quest 2 is first and foremost a stand-alone headset, meaning that it does not need to be plugged into a PC to operate. In its frame hides a whole panel of components (Snapdragon XR2 in particular) which allows it to run an OS, install games, and display the images on the two screens housed behind the visor (1832 by 1920 pixels at 72 Hz, 90 Hz soon).
There are also small speakers that broadcast the sound: it is not mandatory to connect an additional headset and can be annoying in the practice of virtual reality.
You can also use the Quest 2 as a PC VR headset. Just connect it to your gaming machine (laptop or desktop PC) via the USB Type-C cable and voila: VR games like the last are yours. Half-Life: Alyx.
Remember, however, that, to take advantage of the Oculus Quest 2, you will have to pair it and connect with your Facebook account to the device’s OS and, consequently, provide information to the social network. on your uses.
