More than 6,000 additional cases of coronavirus contamination were recorded in France in the space of 24 hours, Public Health France announced Thursday. However, the number of hospitalizations and severe cases in intensive care are decreasing.
This is the worst toll since the end of containment on May 11, and the second heaviest toll since the start of the epidemic. As an indication, 7,578 case had been reported on March 30, at the height of the crisis.
The total number of contaminations in France now stands at 259,698 cases.
Despite this increase in cases, the number of hospitalizations linked to the epidemic fell to 4,535, against 4,600 on Tuesday, August 25. The number of serious cases in intensive care is also decreasing: 381 against 410 two days previously. The figures for Wednesday August 26 were not released due to a technical error
Since Tuesday, 32 deaths have been recorded, raising the number of Covid-19 victims to 30,576 since the start of the epidemic.
To cope with the upsurge in cases, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced new measures on Thursday, in particular the compulsory wearing of the mask in all public spaces of Paris and its inner suburbs. And this from Friday, August 28 at 8 a.m.
