Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe crowned world champion at Imola

Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe won the road race of the world cycling championships in Imola on Sunday. Wout Van Aert and Marc Hirschi complete the podium.

It had been twenty-three years since a Frenchman had donned the rainbow tunic of the cycling world champion. Julian Alaphilippe ended this shortage on Sunday September 27 by winning the road race in Imola, Italy.

Behind him, the Belgian Wout Van Aert won the sprint for the silver medal in front of the Swiss Marc Hirschi bronze medal.
