Google has just launched a new extension for its Chrome browser. Ads Transparency Spotlight, that’s the name, is designed to give Internet users more visibility on the data used for personalized advertising on the web.
Still at an early stage of development, this extension provides detailed information about the advertisements loaded on a web page.
It is thus possible to know the number of them, to have the name of the advertising agencies distributing these advertisements, to obtain the name of the companies and services present on a web page (audience analysis tools, etc.), and finally to have an overview of the personal data used to display these personalized advertisements.
For its Chrome extension, Google relied on its Ad Disclosure Schema API, which is supposed to allow advertisers to be transparent about how their advertising works.
