How the hell do you turn off an iPhone? While this may seem like a surprising question, uninitiated users, those giving up on an old iPhone, or those returning to using a newer iPhone after having switched to Android for several years, are likely to be asked.

Since iPhone X and the disappearance of the Home button, the iPhone’s Power button has been given new features. While a long press on it plus was once enough to turn off an iPhone, holding the side button is now used to activate Siri or classic voice control. Switching off an iPhone X or higher requires a little manipulation.

On the first and second generation iPhone 6, 7, 8 and SE, nothing changes. The Power button, whether located on the side or on the top edge of the device, always turns off iPhone when held for a few seconds.

On the iPhone X, XR, XS, 11, and 12 on the other hand, there are two possibilities to turn off and restart your iPhone. Here are which ones:

Solution 1

Simultaneously press the Power button and one of the two volume buttons on the iPhone. You should see the shutdown window appear on which you just have to drag the slider to the right to turn off the device. Then just hold the side button for a few seconds until the Apple logo is displayed to turn it back on.

Solution 2

Press iPhone volume + then volume – once and hold down the Power button for a few moments until the turn off the device window appears. You will only have to drag the cursor Switch off to turn off your device. To turn it back on, press and hold the Power button for a few seconds until the Apple logo appears.

How to force restart iPhone?

If for one reason or another your iPhone “freezes” and does not respond to any action on your part, you will have to force it to restart.

To do this, on iPhone X, XR, XS, 11, and 12, press volume + once, then volume -, and hold down the Power button, without worrying about the Restart screen which appears. displays, until the iPhone restarts on its own.

On the other models (iPhone 6s, SE 1time and 2e generation and iPhone 7), a forced restart will be done by simply holding down the Power and Home buttons, until the screen turns black and the Apple logo is displayed.
