Jason Witten Biography – Early Years


Jason Witten was born in Elizabethton, Tennessee on May 6, 1982. That makes him a Taurus. The 6’5 ” tall, 262 lb # 82 Dallas Cowboys tight end has captured the hearts of many fans, especially those in Dallas. Jason Witten’s football career has been brilliant and swift.

Witten lives in Southlake, Texas, is married to an emergency room nurse named Michele and has two sons, and is a proud owner of a dog named Tink. Jason’s charitable work is well known and he recently started a program to help families and children affected by domestic violence. The foundation is named on Jason witten SCORE Foundation. His extensive charitable work is why he was recognized for Walter’s Payton Man of the Year by the NFL (2007) and also for winning the Home Depot Neighborhood MVP award. He has received many other honors for his charitable work.

Jason Witten’s brilliant performance on the football field dates back to his high school years at Elizabethton High School where he was linebacker and tight end. Witten shone as one of the most prolific football players in high school. Jason Witten’s college years were spent at the University of Tennessee. As many would have guessed, his college football years have been tremendous. Meanwhile, Witten managed to set numerous records after going from a respectable defensive perspective to a tight offensive end. He set records for receiving yards (493) and receiving (39). His accomplishments saw him quit his senior year and enter the 2003 NFL Draft. From there his career exploded and his reputation continues to shine on and off the field.

Looking back on his early years, Witten’s hometown was Elizabethton (a town between Bristol and Johnson City in Tennessee), he was raised by his mother’s parents from the age of 11, when he came to live with them after her parents divorced. Jason Witten had a difficult childhood before moving in with his grandparents. Her parents had problems with various arrests and there was violence in the home. Her parents are still alive, although they don’t seem to play a significant role in Witten’s life.

Dave Rider is Jason’s grandfather, a football coach for many years, was a major influence in Jason Witten’s football career. Elizabethon High School named its stadium after Dave Rider and is still referred to as Dave Rider Stadium.

In high school, Jason Witten was named Tennessee’s Player of the Year by USA Today. He has received other accolades such as Eastern Tennessee Player of the Year, Mr. Football Runner-Up (by Associate Press) and Regional Defensive Player of the Year. Witten was a starter for all four years of high school and assisted his team to the state semifinals on three separate occasions.

Today, he is one of the most respected players in the NFL. Jason witten is considered a sincere family man, with a down to earth personality and a great influence on our youth.
