One month after the tragic double explosion of August 4 which devastated entire swathes of Beirut, killing 191 and injuring more than 6,500, the inhabitants of the Lebanese capital are still trying to heal their wounds. France 24’s special envoys followed one of the doctors responsible for the facial reconstruction of some seriously injured wounded.
For many seriously injured, disfigured by the murderous double explosion which occurred on August 4 in the port of Beirut, which left 191 dead and more than 6,500 injured, it will take at least two years to recover their faces.
France 24’s special envoys met Doctor Nabil Hakayem, plastic surgeon at the Hôtel Dieu in Beirut, who notably treats Rita and Mabelle. “We have a lot of facial attacks because the blast blast hit people on doors or walls, or it hit people and walls and doors,” he says.
About a hundred seriously injured are still being treated at the Hôtel Dieu.
