Exynos chips are not dead: if Samsung didclosed its r & d department in Austin which was developing – without much success – “custom” ARM cores, the Korean should quickly announce the Exynos 2100 which will succeed theExynos 990. A high-end SoC for smartphones that would complement / compete with the future flagship of Qualcomm which should be announced in December.
If Samsung has buried its ambitions in the field of pure CPU and is satisfied with classic ARM cores as Mediatek does, the partnership that the Korean has signed with AMD in the field of mobile GPUs clearly indicated that the Exynos were not dead.
In all likelihood, the Exynos 2100, whose launch announcement has already been postponed, should not integrate an AMD-signed GPU. The first generation would arrive, at best, in 2021.
