Penalized by the closure of ski lifts, winter sports resorts are suffering the full brunt of the crisis resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic. In Val d’Isère, the director general of the tourist office, Christophe Lavaut, explains that the situation is “complicated and worrying”, but the resort is adapting and reinventing itself.
The mayor of Val d’Isère, Patrick Martin, is optimistic, but “the economic impact is colossal”. According to him, communities are “the big forgotten” in the management of the health crisis.
