Listen to music with your friends, no matter how far away you are. This is the new “Group Session” functionality that Spotify has just launched in beta. Subscribers to a premium account will be able to listen to a podcast or a playlist simultaneously, for a maximum of five people.
By clicking on the Connect menu at the bottom left of the playback screen, you access a new option “Start a group session”. Then just share the link with your guests or scan the code provided to join the session.
Everyone is in control
Both host and guests can pause playback, change songs, or add tracks to the playlist. All changes will then be applied to all participants in real time. Spotify does not however provide a chat service, so you will need to use a third-party application to communicate with your friends at the same time.
The system had been tested since last May with a few users. Now in beta open to all, it may however evolve according to the feedback collected by Spotify.
