Remember the Nokia 3310, this GSM brick capable of delivering messages and calls to you for three days without ever approaching a power outlet. 20 years later, our phones have gained in functions but have lost in the process of autonomy. Processors, screens, cameras, sensors of all kinds … the power deployed by best smartphones is not in vain. If it is difficult to speak of regression, how do you reconcile this debauchery of performance with decent autonomy?
An essential versatile autonomy
At the 01net.com laboratory, we have implemented an advanced test procedure which confronts smartphones with a series of varied and repetitive tasks called “versatile autonomy”. Web browsing, video playback, audio streaming, photo consultation … the smartphone runs our protocol until its battery is completely exhausted. This cocktail, in line with the reality of our uses, highlights the real autonomy of mobiles and allows us to make a comparison that could not be more precise. No one uses their mobile only to watch videos, only to make calls or only to browse the web. In short, we now take into account the general optimization performed by the manufacturer rather than the partial optimizations. A complex measurement for us, but a much clearer result for you. The goal is always the same: to help you always more effectively choose your high-tech equipment.
What are the most enduring smartphones? Here are the top 10 devices tested by 01net.com as of August 12, 2020. Note that none of the devices in this ranking are 5G compatible. The Xiaomi mi 10 pro, the most enduring 5G smartphone, would be 16th.
