Tips for cleaning your football boots

Do you have a pair of soccer shoes? If so, you need to take the right steps to clean them, otherwise they might not stand the test of time. We’ve put together some tips to help you clean your boots properly. Read on.

Step 1: Once you get home, loosen the laces, then remove the boots from your feet. Now hold your boots up and bang them against each other to remove the loose mud. Use a stiff brush to brush the sides of the boots.

Step 2: Take a damp cloth and soak it in lukewarm water. Now squeeze the rag and then rub your boots with it to remove the mud from the shoes. Mud can be stuck in the tiny grooves. You can remove it with a toothbrush.

Step 3: Get an old newspaper page and crumple it up. Now put it in your boots before long term storage. This will help your shoe to stay in the same shape. On top of that, newspaper also helps your boots dry quickly as the paper absorbs water. Put your boots in a safe, dry place so they don’t take a long time to dry completely.

Step 4: Once your boots are dry, you can use petroleum jelly or petroleum jelly to grease the cleats. Another benefit of petroleum jelly is that it will save nails from rust and increase the life of your shoes.

Step 5: To maintain the color of your soccer shoes, you need to get into the habit of polishing them regularly. After 24 hours, you can apply natural leather oil to your boots to prevent the leather from being damaged by water.

A few dos and don’ts

Some people kick in the heel. Although this is tempting, you should never do this as it could cause serious damage.

Never use a wire brush on your boots as it is too hard. Instead, you should use a brush made from a natural, soft material.

To clean your crampons, do not use a cleaning agent containing harsh chemicals. The best idea is to use lukewarm water and a clean clothing.

It is also not recommended to place your wedges near the radiator for faster drying. This will stiffen your crampons and make them weaker.

Using excessive jelly on the studs is also not a good idea as it can loosen the studs or reduce friction.

After each use, you must wash your crampons. It’s a good habit. Also, don’t throw away your old toothbrushes. Instead, keep them somewhere in your house and then use them to clean your soccer cleats.

So if you have a pair of soccer cleats, you need to use these tips to maintain them. Keep in mind that replacing your shoes is not a snap. You have to spend a lot of money for each replacement. So take care of your shoes to make them last longer. Hope this helps.
