The primary function of an ultraportable computer is to follow you everywhere and be operational for as long as possible. It must therefore be light, compact and above all, very durable. Enough to let you forget about the charger when leaving home without giving you a cold sweat.
Among all the ultraportables we have tested in recent months, there are real long-distance runners. And some have even created a surprise. If endurance is the most important criterion for you, this ranking is there to help you choose a portable computer (13 to 14 inches) … which really is.
Be aware that if this is the case, the potency may sometimes take a bit of a back seat. But, rest assured, the 5 machines below are all capable of dealing with any office application, and allowing you to surf and watch movies. And this, whether you are on the move or … comfortably installed on the sofa.
If you find it difficult to properly assess which type of laptop meets your needs and if you wish to have very specific advice as to which technical aspects to favor and which to avoid, we refer you to our buying guide. A video summary can be viewed at the top of this article.
5. Dell XPS 13 2020 (Full HD)
Dell brings up the rear with the excellent Dell XPS 13 which, in our eyes, remains the king of current ultraportables. From the 13.4-inch screen almost without the slightest edge, to the very attractive case through the proposed configuration … everything is there. Even the price! And its autonomy is clearly appreciable, even if it is not the best of the moment.
Video autonomy: 9:34 a.m.
Versatile autonomy: 8:24
Cumulative autonomy: 5:58 p.m.
Overall rating: 4.3 / 5
Price: 1600 euros approximately (excluding current promotion)
4. Lenovo Yoga C940 (14IIL)
Previously on the third step of the podium, Lenovo Yoga is being pushed off the promontory by an apple computer. The fact remains that the very latest 13.9-inch-screen hybrid from the world’s number 1 PC exceeds 10 hours of battery life in our two test scenarios. What justify its price while compensating for the few technical criticisms that we addressed to it during our test to find below.

Versatile autonomy: 11:08 a.m.
Cumulative autonomy: 9:14 p.m.
Overall rating: 4.1 / 5
Price: 1700 euros
3.Apple MacBook Pro 13 2020 Core i5
Apple returns to the podium with its latest 13-inch MacBook Pro. This 2020 version takes all the good ingredients of the previous versions while changing the technical platform, now based on components Intel Core type Ice Lake. An evolution which is successful for it since its autonomy is spectacular.
Video autonomy: 10:26 a.m.
Versatile autonomy: 11:18 a.m.
Cumulative autonomy: 9:44 p.m.
Overall rating: 4/5
Price: 2130 euros
2.Dell Inspiron 14 7000 Series (2019-20)
This Dell Inspiron 14 is very amazing. Despite its state-of-the-art platform and dedicated graphics card (a little anemic, admittedly), this 14-inch ultraportable still manages to hold its own against many of its competitors. It is the first classic ultraportable to surpass the master of the category, the XPS 13. Yes, even the 2020 vintage of Dell’s flagship ultraportable is beaten since it is confined to fifth place in our ranking.
Video autonomy: 9:25 a.m.
Versatile autonomy: 12:37 p.m.
Cumulative autonomy: 10:02 p.m.
Overall score: 3.8 / 5
Price: 1330 euros (excluding current promotion)
1. HP Elite Dragonfly
Our protocols are unanimous: the HP Elite Dragonfly is the most enduring ultraportable (hybrid) at the moment. Its platform is not of the latest generation and this ultraportable is intended more for professional customers than for the general public. However, as it is possible to buy it on the HP site like any other 13.3 inch (Specter and Envy), it would be wrong to do without. Especially that, as we explained in our first grip, this is the first time that HP has managed to surprise us with an ultraportable and, believe us, it is not easy.
Video autonomy: 10:19 a.m.
Versatile autonomy: 1:18 p.m.
Cumulative autonomy: 23 h 37
Overall rating: 4/5
Price: 1800 euros
