The Facebook Independent Oversight Committee (Oversight Board) kicks in. Promised for more than a year by its founder Mark Zuckerberg, it is a kind of ” Supreme Court “ responsible for deciding as a last resort on the moderation of content. The functionality is not yet available worldwide. Deployment is underway, as reported Recode.
Content that remains online is not affected
The instance can be accessed by users unhappy with the deletion of a post as well as by social network teams. It is only possible to challenge the deletion of content but not, for the moment, to ask to intervene on a publication that remains online.
The late establishment of this committee has been widely criticized in the United States, since it comes at the end of the presidential election campaign. This led experts to form their own independent committee in September, ironically called “The Real Facebook Oversight Board”.
